The Awful Truth

When you are told you need to lose weight by your doctor its bad enough, but when family and friends agree it's woman doctorhard to hear. Coming to terms with weight loss can take a little bit of time.

Taking a good hard look at your diet will help you. Get rid of soda and desserts.

Substitute fruit as your dessert or a non fat or low fat fun flavored yogurt.

Substitute soda with sparkling water or simply water with lemon slices.

Recipe: If a flavored drink is important to you, try home brewing some decaffeinated tea. I use three Whole Foods 365 black tea bags to 64 ounces of water. I boil the water and pour over tea bags. Let it steep for about 10 minutes then put the whole thing in the refrigerator. This way the tea is strong tasting and I can squeeze lemon or orange into it.

I would stay away from diet soda as it can cause  bloating.
Tip: Lemon helps support your liver which helps regulate your metabolism. Add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to your daily diet, this helps speed up metabolism. Use this on salads or in your water.

Just start off with these ideas, do them for 2 weeks and see how you feel.
Starting with this action will help you lose a few pounds.


As you work on losing weight make sure you reward yourself. You can set a dollar amount like getting my nails done or the cd you want. You can also pick one meal a week have a dessert that you love.


I make a list of desserts under 120 calories that I like. (dessert is the hardest food for me to let go) this way I always have a list of healthy options that I can still call dessert.

Coming to terms with having to lose weight can be difficult. Some of us know that we have to,  but ignore it. Others really don't see themselves as overweight. Body image  is so important to people. If you feel you fall into the category of not seeing yourself as you really are, I would look for a program to help get yourself started like Weight Watchers. They have a great reputation and a great personal program.




This brings us to the stressful word of EXERCISE. Yes, I did say it!

I know, I know, none of us want to hear it. But the truth is, the only way to take of weight and keep it off is exercise. If you exercise you burn more calories giving you a larger selections of foods. Now that sounds like a win to me!

If you have a larger amount of weight to lose make sure you take it slow and use common sense with exercise. Pain means stop, not push through it. Start with slow walking. Walking around the house or wherever you feel comfortable. Work your way up to 1/2 hour a day.

If you want to work out at home besides walking you can run or ride a bike. You can use a dance aerobic DVD set for cardio and variety.

Tip: Make sure to schedule one day off per week to give your muscles and metabolism a break. You pick the day. It's whatever works for you.

I hope I have given you some useful ideas to get you started. Its important to follow what your doctor says,  a healthy weight is a healthy body.

Some exercises used to enhance your bust line are butterfly, bench press, pushups and planking.

  • Planking is an excellent core muscle builder. This one gives strength to muscles that hold your frame together.
  • Pushups build upper arm, pectoral, back and shoulder muscles. Keeping them tight and toned helps your posture. Holding your shoulders straight and opening your rib cage gives your breasts an uplifted look. For  something a bit different try doing  modified push-ups. Lie on the floor face down, then raise yourself using your arms and extend as far as you can. Repeat 10 times.
  • Do bench press exercises. Set the bench at a 50 degree incline position. Using a long bar with some weights you can handle, try to lower down the bar to about an inch from your chest and then push back. This  helps firm up the bust. You build muscle.
  • Butterfly's can be on a machine or by holding weights in hand. This helps your back and pec muscles. To do this without a machine and at home follow this: Lie on the floor with both arms stretched out to your sides. Use 2-3 lbs. weights on each hand. Lift both arms and have them meet together in front of your face, making a "V" form. Do 10-15 times.

Better diet to help skin elasticity and staying a healthy weight will help your body with stretch marks and sagging, those two decisions go a long way to healthy breast tissue. What Sneakers Are You WearingRocking Sneakers

Television commercials keep hitting us where we feel it. Bright bold titles that shout, "No Extra Work Involved"!

Buy these shoes and you will walk your way to great legs and butt.

How would you like a 10 percent increase when working your calves and hamstrings or a 28 percent increase when toning your butt, all of that can be yours just by walking in fitness sneakers!

How can you resist that statement? Just walk around an' you exercise, tone and firm up your legs.

Hey, everyone wants great legs and a butt.

Well, I thought about buying a pair, but they cost a lot of money. So, I thought I would do a little research first.

No matter how you look at it,  $100 is a lot for a pair of shoes to walk around in, especially when repurchasing every 6 months.

As I was looking into the shoes and ways to help myself have a better figure I found some information I thought I would share.

A Little History

Did you know that these shoes came out as footwear for diabetes patients or people that were prone to ankle issues? They are made with a slight rocker bottom that creates instability, forcing your body to use other muscles that you wouldn't normally use.

Toning shoes are purposely unstable.  They are designed to facilitate sagittal plane motion, or motion from heel to toe.  By rounding the outsole in this direction, the foot and lower leg are “rocked” forward as weight is transferred from heel to toe during gait.  Because of this rocking motion, the forces acting on joints are changed and muscles are activated to control some of the instability.

This makes your muscles work harder. If you do this all day long you experience some soreness that wearer's are talking about. You overuse muscles that aren't regularly used.

Scientists Weigh In

There have been a few studies done to help people make informed decisions regarding the claims that companies issue about the exercise, toning and fitness of your legs and butt when wearing rocker sole shoes.

One newer study performed at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, took 2 groups of a dozen women ages 19-24 and 21-27, had them execute a set of 5 minute intervals on a treadmill wearing either Sketcher Shape ups, MB7, Reebocks Easy Tone, Reinspire Shoes or traditional New Balance running shoes.

The study measured muscle usage in calve, hamstring, buttock, quads, ab and back muscles. An analysis was performed on the data collected from this study.

rocker sole shoesThe conclusion from Wisconsin – La Crosse  study was – there was NO significant difference in calories burned or muscle usage between the different types of shoes that were worn in the study. That percentage increase I talked about above doesn't exist per this study.

The advertising of these types of shoes gives the public a comfortable feeling about purchasing and wearing them. We all want to believe wearing a shoe can burn more calories or tone our legs and butt fast, with nothing more then walking around.

The shoe company's defend their position and cast doubt on the study results. The companies that manufacture the shoes are saying that the studies are too small and they still stand behind their products.

Do you Have a Saggy Butt?

How many times have you looked in the mirror turned around and said to yourself, oh man! My butt has fallen! I have a saggy booty! or I have my mothers butt!

That one is the worst.

There is hope, You can fix it! Let's talk about 3 ways to fix a saggy booty. Some of this is going to sound familiar, you have heard it before but didn't realize it mattered to your booty.

First – Your Diet

Yes, this matters to your booty lift.

Adjusting your foods that you eat to the Fat Burning kinda food will help your behind! Limiting your sugar, picking lean proteins and consuming low saturated fats deliver maximum nutritional power that fuels your workouts and keeps your booty goals on track.

To find out how many calories you should be eating in one day, follow this guideline.

  1. You start by multiplying your weight by 10 then choose the calorie level closest to the answer.
  2. Calorie Levels are: 1200, 1400 1600 1800 or 2000
  3. Example: if you weigh 170 multiply 170 x 10 = 1700
  4. I would choose 1600 calorie level plan. This way I will burn off calories and still feel satisfied. I'm not dropping my caloric intake so low that I'm starving myself.

You will need to eat more food with fiber, fruits and vegetable do the trick for that one. They have the added benefit of keeping you full longer.

Second – Motivation

There is no way to shape up your booty unless you exercise. You can choose to have butt lift surgery however, who wants the pain and cost of that? What you will need to do is put your health first – make a date with yourself to exercise. Keep a journal and record when you work out and how felt before and after. Record what you eat during the day. this way you have a reference to use when you need to make changes.

A huge part of maintaining a healthy life has to do with the people you associate with. Spend time with people that value a healthy lifestyle. Its easier to not have the dessert when no one else is eating dessert.

Third – Exercise

The key to a successful fitness program is consistency and variety. You do make things easier on yourself when you map out your routines.

Its a good idea to have a video or DVD workout set for when the weather is bad or you need variety.

Start off with 15 minutes a day and work up to half hour a day or more.

Make sure you get Cardio in a few times a week. You can jog, walk, bike ride or jump rope.

If you already belong to a gym, get going, map it out.

Here are a few of my favorite exercises:

The High Heels exercise is a great butt/thigh working exercise. Start off with 10 reps in each direction and work your way up to 20 each side,  following the diagram below.

Start Position: Stand with feet hip width apart, toes and knees turned out from hips. Lift your heels and balance on the balls of your feet, bringing heels together. Lift your chest, suck in abs, draw shoulders back and down. Reach your arms out to the sides.

Start: Balancing on the balls of your feet, take one step to the right, then another, while keeping your heels lifted. repeat on the left, then alternate sides. Wave your arm,s and shake your hips from side to side.

The Attitude Kick back is also a great butt/leg slimmer. Start with 15 and work your way up to 20 reps on each side,  following diagram below.

Start Position: Stand with heels together and toes out, rotating from your hips, abs sucked in, spine lengthened and arms reaching overhead in a "V" position.

Start: Standing on your left leg, lift your right foot and place behind your left knee. Extend your leg to the back with your knee bent and leg turned out. Maintain your arms over your head in "V" position. Return the foot to knee and pulse back to the lifted position. Repeat then switch sides.

How to Learn to Tone Your Butt at Homehow to tone your butt at home

Since you are viewing this post I will believe you Googled how to tone your butt at home and you want to learn about exercising in your own home. Going out to the gym is not for everybody. I have done both but I personally like the flexibility of doing my own thing. I am not as bored as I would be going to a gym, plus I find it easier to work the exercise into my schedule working out at home.

What to Look at First

When you are starting to set up a program for yourself, try and think about what you like to do. If its running, calisthenics, Yoga, Zumba, Weight training or following a DVD to your favorite fitness guru make sure to let yourself wonder through those ideas before you start making up your mind.

Write down your ideas and look at your daily schedule, where can you fit exercise in comfortably? Do some exercises lend themselves to certain times of the day more comfortably then others. Write all this stuff down. Write down what you don't want to do. This will help narrow down your list.

Work Limitations

If you work from home you will find a large amount of options to work into your day, from running to working out with a DVD.
If you commute to work you will have to jungle a little bit. Some people find its easiest to work out first thing in the morning or at lunch time. You just take a longer lunch. If your schedule is shift work then you will need to look at your plan weekly. Shift work makes scheduling exercise a bit more complex but not impossible.  Toning your butt or body can be done anywhere.

Familytoning your butt at home

How do you work exercise into all of your family obligations?
Well, sometimes you don't! You have to take the time for yourself.

Other times while the kids are playing soccer you can walk around the field yourself and get exercise. Bring your own mat and do situps and pushups and leg lunges while the kids are doing their thing. When the kids go outside to play, go with them for a half hour, play basketball, sweat a little! Ride bicycles with them, helmets of course!

Not only will you be doing something for yourself but your kids will love that you are out hanging with them.

Physical Issues

Sometimes our minds are ready to get it in gear but our bodies are not. No problem, that doesn't mean you can't do anything, it means you have to pick and choose and do what is right for your body. If you have physical issues make sure you use common sense when exercising. Google whatever issue you have, then look up how to support your body, there will have exercises available at most reputable medical facilities, example: Mayo Clinic.

Everyone should talk to their doctor before starting a exercise program but it's very important if you have issues that need to be addressed. If you don't have a doctor call your insurance company and they will be able to help you find one in your area. If you don't have insurance look for an urgent care or local clinic to help you out.

Taking All of it into Consideration

When you have all of the above decided, make yourself a weekly plan:

  • Monday – run 15 minutes before showering for work
  • Tuesday – work out to fitness DVD for 20 minutes
  • Wednesday – walk with moms group during lunch
  • Thursday – play ball with the kids outside and work out 20 minutes to fitness DVD
  • Friday – run for 15 minutes before showering for work
  • Saturday – play with the kids and go for a 30 minute walk
  • Sunday – Rest

Put together something similar that fits your needs and your life. Making sure you write it down somewhere, doing that does make a difference.

Contest at Work for the Biggest Loser

Okay, I signed up at work for the biggest loser contest! Talk about big doin's. Now I really have to get it in gear.

We received a tote bag of recipes and healthy ideas. Now those I don't need, but I do need something called a follow through pill. I wonder if they manufacture those, if they don't they should. Those little babies would make the company a fortune!

Seriously though, I ate a huge salad tonight to get in a better mindset and went for a walk. My brazil butt lift will be making its way back into the DVD player. Hopefully this go round I will find it easier to work on toning my body.

Oh No!

I Let Life Get In The Way!

I am paying for it now, I haven't been working out like I should. Summer is here and there is no way I am putting on a bathing suit!

So back to square one!

I have to start my 6 day supermodel slimdown program! Then follow the workout steps.

I don't need to be what I was, but I need to be happy with what I see in the mirror now. So, all you folks that have fallen off the wagaon, get up dust yourself off, start right where you are.

We all don't have to be perfect just happy with ourselves. Take into concideration that saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't care what the number says, I know I'm beautiful. So are you!

Gaining weight is so easy once that ball starts rolling, losing weight can be just as easy once we get that ball started rolling!

How Many Calories Per Day1200 calories a day

Some might think 1200 calories a day is too high of a number to lose weight, there is also a group out there that think 900 calories a day is the right number. Well, both calorie numbers have their place, but today we are talking about 1200 calories a day.

A 1200 calorie a day diet will give you enough energy to go about your day without feeling like you are hungry or tired. That calorie count will also give you a larger variety of foods to choose from then a 900 calorie count will. Getting enough fiber filled foods helps you feel full.

When deciding to diet its important to know if you're going to be exercising as well as cutting back on your food intake. The calorie count has to be reasonable enough to support your body performing its normal functions. Exercising will become one of them.

When you cut back on too many calories you make your body believe its starving and then your metabolism slows down to a crawl, it doesn't burn calories consistently.

It becomes very important to eat from multi food groups balancing nutrients that support your systems. Not eating the right combination of foods can work against your weight loss. You don't want to be swimming against the tide do you? You want your metabolism to stay high and strong. This way you will burn the maximum amount of calories a day, losing the maximum amount of weight per week.

Everyone loses weight at a different rate so you cannot guess how much you will lose, the best thing is to have a good steady goal of 1 – 2 pounds lost per week.

The longer you keep the weight off the more comfortable your body is with being your new weight which helps reset your metabolism.

Your own 6 Day Supermodel Slimdown Plan


Some of my favorite lower calorie satisfying foods in the summer are: watermelon, strawberries, pineapples, yogurt parfaits(made at home),bell peppers or cucumbers dipped in hummus.

1200 calorie a day meal planTo jumpstart your 1200 calorie a day meal plan,  here are a few ideas that work within that number.

Sample Meal Menu:

  • Breakfast:
  • Poached Egg and Asparagus
  • 1/2 medium grapefruit
  • 1/2 whole wheat taosted english muffin
  • Snack:
  • 3/4 cup cubed pineapple and one string cheese
  • Dinner:
  • Lemon chicken with steamed snap peas

Lemon Chicken

Marinate a 4 oz boneless, skinless chicken breast in lemon juice and olive oil and bake at 375 degrees until cooked through. Serve with 1 cup steamed snap peas.
